Spectrum Comms with John Holland for Transport for NSW
Project Objectives
NSW Government has rolled out the New Intercity Fleet to replace aging trains servicing, customers between Sydney to the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the South Coast. A purpose-built maintenance facility in Kangy Angy was developed to service and maintain the new fleet from 2024. Designed for 24-hour operation, the facility required careful planning to manage potential impacts on the surrounding community – with a strong focus on noise reduction, stakeholder engagement, and clear communication throughout delivery.
Our Role
Spectrum Comms was engaged as the Communications and Community Engagement Manager for the New Intercity Fleet Maintenance Facility. This work included:
- Developing and implementing a Community Management Plan to provide timely, clear and accurate project information, and to build trust through transparent communication.
- Leading the at-property Noise Communications Strategy to support noise mitigation works at affected residential properties.
- Responding to community enquiries and complaints, ensuring all correspondence was recorded, tracked and reported in the Contact Manager (CM) system.
- Correcting misinformation and fostering community tolerance through tailored, multi-channel communications.
Outcomes
- 68 properties identified for at-property noise mitigation, with all works completed in close consultation with owners.
- Successful handover over to Transport for NSW following effective engagement and communications.
