Spectrum Comms with Jerrara Power
Project Objectives
The Jerrara Power energy from waste facility located near Bungonia in NSW will have the capacity to thermally treat up to 330,000 tonnes per year of residual municipal, commercial and industrial waste that would ordinarily be directed to landfill, generating up to 30 megawatts of base load renewable electricity, or to enough to power 43,000 homes.
The project also offers substantial environmental benefits, including a forecast reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 524,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to removing 114,000 cars from the road annually.
Our Role
Spectrum Comms was engaged to deliver a comprehensive stakeholder communication and engagement plan to support the development of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Our goal was to ensure community voices were heard and meaningfully considered throughout the planning phase. Our work included:
- Facilitating community workshops and a resident sentiment phone survey.
- Establishing a Community Reference Group.
- Designing and maintaining the project website, 1800 community number and dedicated email channel.
- Coordinating social media and email campaigns, print advertising, letterbox drops and door knocks.
- Delivering briefings to Council, local MPs and other key stakeholders.
Outcomes
- Engagement reached over 370 individual stakeholders and organisations across 711 properties.
- Feedback was collected through workshops, surveys, briefings, emails and calls.
- The Scoping Report, submitted to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on 22 June 2021 documented the diverse perspectives and concerns raised during the engagement process.
