Spectrum Comms with Cessnock City Council
Project Objectives
Carmichael Park BMX facility is the only BMX facility within the Cessnock Local Government Area. It was a freestyle dirt track that was being predominantly maintained by local users and lacked supporting infrastructure such as shade, water fountains, seating and pathways. Council received $250,000 in funding from the Resources for Regions program to complete upgrades to the BMX facility and needed community input to inform a concept plan and detailed design.
Our Role
Spectrum Comms was engaged to provide specialty engagement support to seek community input into development of the concept plan.
This included:
- preparing a Community Engagement Plan.
- developing communication collateral including posters, corflutes, DL-size flyers, social media posts and videos and media release.
- designing an online survey, kids drawing competition, and online ideas wall.
- facilitating a series of online community workshops (due to COVID-19 restrictions).
- letterbox drops, advertising and submissions.
- preparing an engagement summary report for use by the technical consultants to prepare the concept plans.
Outcomes
- 236 unique stakeholder interactions.
- 215 survey responses, 14 workshop participants (including children), six ideas and comments on ideas wall.
- A concept plan was developed and exhibited in February 2022 and presented to Council for endorsement.
- Council awarded the tender for construction for the upgraded BMX facility in September 2022.
