Spectrum Comms with Snowy Hydro
Project Objectives
Snowy Hydro is building a gas-fired power station at the former Hydro Aluminium site at Kurri Kurri including the construction of two Open Cycle Gas Turbines (OCGT), power station and electrical switch yard to generate 660 megawatts to ensure energy security into the National Energy Market.
New hydrogen-ready, gas turbine technology offers more flexible and efficient dispatchable power generation than current coal-fired plants that are reaching the end of life. To support the NSW Government’s Climate Change Policy Framework to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 by displacing significant carbon-intensive energy generation stations such as the Liddell Power Station in 2023.
Our Role
Community and Local Engagement Manager embedded within the Snowy Hydro team to plan and deliver community engagement during the development of the Environmental Impact Assessment, (including EPBC referral) and to work closely with stakeholders and local communities to keep them informed about onsite activities during construction.
Our role also included the development and implementation of a Community Grants and Sponsorship program, working with gas lateral contractor APA, management of project 1800 number, and working with SnowyHydro Corporate and Media and Government Relations teams to develop communications material including social media content and media releases.
Outcomes
Following the project determination in 2021, our team continues its role onsite during the construction of this State Significant project and continues to work closely with major construction contractor UGL.
